Wings & Water Wetlands Education Program
Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve
Volunteer with TNC as a Naturalist Guide and assist with outdoor field experiences for students in the Great Salt Lake Watershed!
We are seeking dedicated volunteers to assist with Wings & Water field trips during the fall and spring (September/October 2024 and April/May 2025). Field trips typically run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and/or 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Field experiences will take place at the Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve in the morning and Utah State University (USU) Botanical Center in the afternoon.
Prior environmental education experience is preferred but not required. It is essential that applicants are comfortable and capable of working with and leading youth groups in an outdoor environment with the help of TNC and USU staff. Applicants will be required to undergo a background check and TNC's Youth Safety Qualifications prior to volunteering, which will take 1.5-2 hours of time.
Volunteers will be trained on field activities, and all necessary equipment will be provided. We ask that you commit to helping on at least three field trips.
The Wings & Water Wetlands Education Program is a full-day field trip for 4th graders that takes place at the Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve and USU Botanical Center. Field trip activities include walking a mile around the boardwalk, observing and identifying wildlife, sharing Great Salt Lake ecology and water issues, exploring plant and animal adaptations, and having a fun and meaningful day!
