Volunteer Overview

Located in the transition zone between the moist, heavily forested west side of the Cascades and the drier bunch grass prairies of the east, Tom McCall is home to one of Oregon’s most impressive displays of spring wildflowers. More than 200 plant species, including grass widows, prairie stars, shooting stars, balsamroot, lupine and paintbrush, thrive here. Enjoy your visit and thank you for helping to protect this special place!

What are we doing, exactly? Volunteers will perform a variety of tasks that may include trail maintenance, such as hauling gravel, cutting berms, clearing brush, and building steps, or hand-pulling invasive plants. Ability to hike up to 3 miles round-trip with elevation gain and lift up to 25 pounds required.

Please BRING: Hiking boots, a daypack, lunch and snacks, plenty of water for the day, layers of clothing including rain gear, a hat, and sunscreen. Bring leather gloves and safety glasses if you have them; if not, you can borrow ours. We will provide instruction and tools.
