Thousands of people every year visit Arizona’s Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve to see and experience its rich natural diversity. It has been a site for promoting TNC’s conservation work and innovative environmental education activities.
Apply for a volunteer position at Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve to help with the visitor center, preserve management, and steward gardens. Open volunteer positions include:

Preserve is open:
Oct-Mar: Wednesday-Sunday, 7:30am-4pm
Apr-Sep: Wednesday-Sunday, 6:30am-4pm
Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays all year and on Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas and New Years days.

This position serves as the visitor center host at the preserve, greeting the many visitors and introducing them to the features, the background, and the goals of the site. In addition, this volunteer supports the preserve manager with administrative tasks. The preserve is located on a lush floodplain between the Patagonia and Santa Rita Mountains. It has some of the region’s richest streamside habitat. It is home to a great diversity of birds and wildlife and is a destination site for birders from far and wide.
The opporunity is weekly, but times are variable. Volunteers are asked to commit to a 5-hour shift the same day each week.
Opportunity is ongoing from February 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024.

Join the preserve’s special projects work parties. The workdays will vary but will include projects that will assist in implementing preserve management plans including species monitoring, exotic species removal, preserve building maintenance, and trail maintenance.
Opporunity is ongoing from February 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024.
Workdays will be announced in advance, providing signup information for each day.

Become an RV site host at the Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve. RV site hosts live on site at the preserve’s RV pad. As a representative of The Nature Conservancy, the site host is responsible for opening, closing, and staffing the visitor center, collecting fees, orienting and providing information to visitors, general chores (filling feeders, some cleaning), general administrative duties, and taking care of the native garden.
Site hosts commit to a 3-month assignment. Assignments begin January 15, April 15, July 15, and October 15.

Directions to Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve
- From I-10, take Highway 83 south.
- At Sonoita, turn west on Highway 82.
- In Patagonia, turn right on 4th Avenue, then left onto Pennsylvania, which turns into Blue Heaven Road.
- Cross the creek and go about one mile to the entrance.
