Volunteer Overview

Join The Nature Conservancy and the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation's (DCR) Natural Heritage Program to plant native river cane shoots!

This volunteer event supports DCR's native river cane restoration efforts to re-establish native river canebrakes along the Clinch River in Southwest Virginia. Volunteers will work alongside TNC and VA DCR Natural Heritage staff to plant river cane shoots using hand tools. The cane shoots that we will be harvesting were proagated through previous volunteer work days in 2024.
