Volunteer Overview

The first seed harvest of 2023 is here! Join TNC on Saturday, June 24, for a morning of collecting native plant seeds that will be planted this coming winter at Kankakee Sands.

No experience with plants, seeds or any tool needed. We will have all supplies and instructions ready for you. Youth are very welcome to attend with families to start learning all about our wonderful native plants.

  • No experience with plants or gardening needed.
  • All tools and instructions are provided.
  • The terrain here is easy, but we will be off trails and on the prairie.
  • Volunteers should be comfortable walking over uneven terrain and undertaking moderate physical activity, including bending.
  • Please come prepared with drinking water, close-toed shoes and weather-appropriate layers.
