Volunteer Overview

Join us on Earth Day for a Weed Wrangle!

Help TNC's Nathan Herbert pull invasive honeysuckle, strawberry tree, burning bush and barberry from Oppenheim Woods.

Volunteers will be taught about invasive plants, how to identify the focus species and how to remove them. Invasive plants outcompete our native wildflowers and reduce habitat and food sources for wildlife. Removing invasives helps forests benefit native pollinators, insects, birds and more.

  • No experience with gardening, habitat restoration or any tools needed.
  • All ages are welcome and this is very family-friendly!
  • No herbicides will be used at this workday.
  • All tools and instructions are provided.
  • The terrain is moderate.
  • Volunteers should be comfortable hiking over uneven terrain and moderate physical activity including bending.
  • Please come prepared with drinking water, close-toed shoes and weather-appropriate layers.

Please RSVP so we know you’re coming!
