Weed Wednesdays Invasive Control

Virginia

The Nature Conservancy is in search of 5-10 volunteers to assist in invasive species control at our South River Preserve in Stuart’s Draft, Virginia. These work days are an excellent opportunity to help protect one of the rarest ecosystems in Virginia!

Volunteers are needed for the following dates:

  • May 22
  • June 5
  • June 26
  • July 10
  • July 31
  • August 7
  • August 28

To sign up contact Jen Dalke, volunteer program manager, at jdalke@tnc.org or 540-335-1302 (c).

This preserve is a remnant wet prairie, home to a host of native pollinators as well as a few globally rare plants (Filipendula rubra and Eryngium yuccifolium). Volunteers will use weed wrenches, loppers, hand saws, and a variety of other hand tools to mechanically remove or cut invasive autumn olive in preparation for staff to treat them with herbicide.
