Spring Cleaning at Saco Heath

Maine

Located in a rapidly growing area of southern Maine, the 1,218-acre Saco Heath Preserve features an easy hike along a woodland trail to a boardwalk through the heath’s varied peatland communities. In the spring, the heathland plants bloom, spreading a carpet of lavender, pink and white.

Because of its proximity to the Greater Portland area and its truly unique landscape, Saco Heath sees more visitors than any of our other preserves. Each spring we prepare for the busy summer season by cleaning up the area and clearing brush along the sides of the pathway. This season we'll also remove some construction debris left over from recent boardwalk repairs.

Join us for a fun day in a remarkable place, where you'll learn more about the unique ecology, meet new people, and give back to nature!
