This Fall at The Nature Conservancy’s Sunny Valley Preserve, rolling hills and quiet woods sometimes mask how busy things get. Much of the year, a visitor to this Litchfield County spot might see farm work, hiking and construction of new features like kiosks and signage. On September 21, the preserve’s most bustling day of all returns with the 26th Open Farm Day. The family-friendly calendar cornerstone—a celebration of Connecticut’s farming and conservation heritage—went biennial in 2017 to help with planning and to make sure preserve staff have time to handle all the other responsibilities of making Sunny Valley special. “Wonderful sponsors, volunteers and the thousands who attend make this possible,” says preserve director Wayne Woodard. “We can’t wait!”
