Overview

Take a hike!

Join us this fall for a guided walk at one or more of our southern New Jersey preserves. Enjoy the sights and sounds of nature, and learn about the preserves and TNC on these fun guided walks. All ages and experience levels are welcome.

Each tour will offer a unique experience. Whether you’re interested in birding, botany, or history, there’s a tour perfect for everyone! See the full list of event dates and details below. 

Packing Checklist: refillable water bottle, bug spray, snack (granola will be provided), binoculars

Saturday, September 24 at 7:30 AM: Birding Tour at South Cape May Meadows
Location: South Cape May Meadows parking lot near the welcome center.

Our South Cape May Meadows Preserve is a haven for migrating and local birds. Discover the preserve’s unique habitat and the many species that rely on its resources. Expect to see songbirds, raptors, shorebirds, and more on this exciting tour! 

Saturday, September 24 at 10:00 AM: Botany Tour at South Cape May Meadows
Location: South Cape May Meadows parking lot near the welcome center.

Dive into all things plants with expert botanist Keith Seager. Explore the wetlands and maritime forests of the South Cape May Meadows Preserve and learn about the unique plants that grow in these habitats. 

Sunday, September 25 at 10:00 AM: Botany Tour at Garrett Family Preserve
Location: Garrett Family Preserve parking lot near the monarch statue.

Dive into all things plants with expert botanist Keith Seager. Explore the wetlands and maritime forests of the South Cape May Meadows Preserve and learn about the unique plants that grow in these habitats. 

Saturday, October 8 at 7:30 AM: Birding Tour at Garrett Family Preserve
Location: Garrett Family Preserve parking lot near the monarch statue.

The Garrett Family Preserve provide visitors the opportunity to see migrating songbirds, raptors, shorebirds and more. Join John King, a TNC volunteer and expert birder, on this exciting tour where you’ll get to see several of the bird species that pass through this preserve during the annual fall migration. 

Saturday, October 8 at 10:00 AM: Preserve 101 Tour at South Cape May Meadows
Location: South Cape May Meadows parking lot near the welcome center.

Get to know the South Cape May Meadows Preserve on this one-hour guided tour. This walk is meant for first-time preserve visitors or regular visitors who want to learn more about the preserve’s history and TNC’s role in protecting and maintaining it.

Saturday, October 28 at 10:30 AM: History and Ecology Tour at Maurice River Bluffs
Location: Maurice River Bluffs parking lot near the message boards.

The 500-acre Maurice River Bluffs preserve is home to Wild and Scenic river provide animals like migrating birds and reptiles with important habitat and food resources. See historic ruins found throughout the grounds. Get to know the history of the Bluffs and learn about its unique ecology on this guided tour with TNC’s Critical Lands Manager, Damon Noe.
