Overview

What if everyone read the same book and joined readers in experiences to explore its themes? That’s the idea behind One Book, One Community of Monroe County, modeled after a program developed by the American Library Association to engage and enlighten, foster a sense of community and create a culture of reading.

This year’s featured book, The River, is the story of Wynn and Jack’s long-awaited canoe trip along the Maskwa River through the northern Canadian wilderness. Get a copy of the book at your local library or favorite bookseller.

As part of this month-long celebration of nature, TNC will offer two opportunities to connect (see below for details). Visit the OBOC’s event page to learn more about the festival and find additional opportunities.

About the Birds

Join conservationists Kimberly Steinberger and Tara Poloskey as they share the joys of birding. Learn their tips to start or enhance your birding journey and what you can expect to see this time of year. They’ll share insights on some of TNC’s best birding spots, why birds matter and how our conservation efforts work to protect their habitats. You’ll also have the opportunity to join them at Erie Marsh the following day if you choose to do so! To sign-up, email jennifer.saul@monroe.lib.mi.us.
