Overview

Join us at Kankakee Sands in Newton County to experience a harbinger of spring, the call of one of our paradoxical upland shorebirds, the American woodcock. We will discuss a little of the biology of this unusual bird while we listen for calling males on the prairie.

This is a very family-friendly event, and you don’t need to be a birder to attend! All are welcome. Our pursuit of the bird will be off trail, so please bring appropriate footwear and dress for the weather.

Thanks to Friends of the Sands for leading and the Newton County Park Board for partnering on this event!

Please RSVP to Gus Nyberg at nyberggus@gmail.com
