State Director, Delaware
In 2012, Richie Jones resigned as an equity partner of a Wilmington corporate law firm to become State Director of The Nature Conservancy in Delaware. Richie’s passion for nature traces back to his childhood spent exploring the meadows, woods and streams of his family’s farm in south eastern Pennsylvania. Prior to joining TNC, Richie spent more than two decades serving as a volunteer leader for local and regional conservation organizations, including the Brandywine Conservancy, Delaware Nature Society, the Land Conservancy for Southern Chester County and the Delaware Museum of Natural History.
During his tenure at TNC, Richie and his team have tripled the staff and budget of the Delaware Chapter and pioneered several innovative new programs, including the Brandywine-Christina Revolving Water Fund and a multi-facilitated Urban Conservation program—a key component of TNC’s North American Cities Network. Richie is now leading the Delaware Chapter’s development of a state-wide initiative to bolster Delaware’s nature-based defenses to the impacts of climate change, an effort that requires tight integration of public and private partners, deep community engagement, bold policy initiatives and creative financing solutions.
Richie is grateful for the opportunity TNC affords him to apply his business and legal skills toward conserving the lands and waters on which all life depends.
