Stories in New Jersey

If you like beer, you should love trees.

When you look at your beer, do you picture the forests who helped make it? No? Well, we're hoping to change that. Did you know 50% of our nation’s water is filtered by forests? Or that 95% of beer is water?

Do the math: if you like beer, you should love forests.

Much of the water for your favorite New Jersey craft brew comes from local rivers, streams and aquifers, and forests play a crucial role in keeping those waterways healthy. In our densely populated state, forests and the freshwater resources they contain are challenged by fragmentation—lost or disconnected habitat caused by development.

Protect Beer and Forests

Support Our Work

The Nature Conservancy is working hard to protect and restore critical forests and water resources in New Jersey. In fact, we’ve already helped conserve more than 55,000 acres across the state. But there is still much more work to be done and we need your help. Your support for conserving and restoring healthy forests helps protect clean water for your local brewery.

Film Screening: BREWMASTER

Join us on Wednesday, October 24 at Montclair Film’s Cinema505. Nosh on soft pretzels and sip New Jersey beer and hard cider at our OktoberForest happy hour reception at Montclair Film. Then sit back and relax for a screening of Brewmaster, a documentary that artfully captures the craftsmanship, passion and innovation within the beer industry. The story follows a young ambitious New York lawyer who struggles to chase his American dream of becoming a brewmaster and a Milwaukee-based professional beer educator as he attempts to become a Master Cicerone. A panel discussion about the relationship between healthy forests, clean water and good local beer and hard cider production will immediately follow the film, as well as Q+A with the filmmaker, local brewers and Nature Conservancy experts.

Many thanks to NJ Beer Co. and Ironbound Hard Cider for providing complimentary beverages for the reception!

Reception begins at 6pm, screening at 7pm followed by a panel discussion and Q+A at 8:30pm.
