Sun King Brewery Celebrates OktoberForest!
The Indiana brewery is among more than 100 around the country recognizing the key role of forests in ensuring clean water.
Sun King Brewing Company is the brainchild of Dave Colt and Clay Robinson. With the help of family and friends – Omar Robinson, Andy Fagg and Steve Koers – the first keg of Sun King beer rolled out the door for delivery in July 2009. Available on tap and in cans throughout Indiana, Illinois, Florida, Cincinnati & Dayton, OH, and Louisville, Ky., Sun King has grown into a leader in the independent craft brewing movement. Sun King’s brewers hand craft flagship, seasonal and specialty beers that have been rewarded with multiple medals at the Indiana Brewers Cup, the Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup competitions, and the brewery donates to hundreds of community organizations throughout Indiana. Sun King also owns Sun King Spirits and Tap Room in Carmel, Ind., where guests can sample spirits made collaboratively with local distilleries, handcrafted cocktails, Sun King beers, food from local restaurants and soon, a variety of Sun King’s own small-batch spirits. Visit sunkingbrewing.com for more information. Sun King Brewery is also on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Examples of Sun King's environmental efforts:
Cans: Sun King's commitment to the environment started from the moment we opened our doors. The decision was made that Sun King would package our beer in cans. Aluminum cans are infinitely recyclable. They are easier to transport and do not require as much fossil fuel to distribute. It only takes 2 weeks to turn an empty can around into new packaging. Bonus - cans can go places that bottles cannot like parks, pools, the race track, etc.
Aluminum Tabs: Sun King has also partner with the Ronald McDonald House of Central Indiana. The Ronald McDonald House encourages all ages to collect aluminum tabs, which is the most valuable piece of aluminum on a can. Each year, a tab collecting contest is hosted by Sun King during the spring and summer months. We challenge our patrons collect tabs at work and at home. Those who participate but merely turning in their tabs to Sun King, receive various prizes. Sun King turns in all of the collected tabs at the Tab Collection Festival on Monument Circle located in downtown Indianapolis.
Spent Grains: All of our spent grains (mash) is given to two local farmers. These farmers use this as feed for their farm animals and for their crops.
If you like beer, you should love forests.
Beer is 95% water. And 40% of the world’s usable water comes from forests. Help protect beer’s main ingredient. Help us plant one billion trees!
