Baraboo Hills Volunteer Opportunities

Stewardship Volunteers
The Baraboo Hills office has an active volunteer stewardship committee that runs workparties at least once a month on our preserves.  They need volunteers who like to work in the outdoors and want to take an active part in preserve management.  Join other volunteers on one Saturday of every month at a preserve in the Baraboo Hills.  Activities include controlling exotic plant species, maintaining hiking trails, seed collection, and working on fire breaks.  Follow this link for specific dates and times of upcoming work parties.

Office Project
The Baraboo Hills office is looking for a volunteer to help set up a new filing system in our sunny new office in historic downtown Baraboo. We expect this project to take several months. We would like someone who will be available two to three hours, once or twice a week. Days and hours are very flexible.

Preserve Boundary Posting
We are looking for volunteers to help with posting the boundaries of our preserves in the Baraboo Hills.  This is an excellent opportunity for a committed volunteer to really get to know the lands we protect.  Good map reading and compass skills desirable.

Hike Leaders
The Baraboo Hills office is looking for volunteers to lead field trips on an on-call basis, about one time per year.  Field trip leaders need to be knowledgeable about some aspect of the biology of the Baraboo Hills and familiar with The Nature Conservancy.

Contact Information
If you are interested in volunteering in the Baraboo Hills or would like to learn more about volunteer opportunities, please contact Angie Ashley, Baraboo Program Assistant, at (608) 356-5300 or e-mail aashley@tnc.org.  Our office is located at 414 Broadway Street, Suite 202, Baraboo.

Door Peninsula Volunteer Opportunities

Office Help
We currently have a need for occasional help with mailings or specific office tasks on an as-needed basis.  We are looking for reliable individuals who are willing to commit for a period of at least six months to one year.  In most cases, schedule times are flexible and appropriate training will be provided for all positions.

Contact Information
More complete job descriptions are available at the Door Peninsula office, (920) 743-8695.  Our office is located at 311 Pennsylvania St., Sturgeon Bay.

Madison Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Receptionist Needed
Do you enjoy working with people and answering questions?  If you live in the Madison area and are available for 2-3 hours over the noon hour, one or two days a week, we need you!  We are looking for that peppy spirit, a wearer of many hats and a loyal TNC supporter to act as our primary public contact at the front desk.

* Note: Because the volunteer receptionist will need careful training to learn how to handle the many different types of calls received, we are looking for a reliable individual who is willing to work on an ongoing basis; days are flexible.

Contact Information
If you’re interested in helping out or would like to learn more about this volunteer opportunity, please contact Maureen O'Brien, Office Assistant, at the Madison Office at (608) 251-8140, mobrien@tnc.org.  Our office is located at 633 W. Main St., Madison.

Mukwonago Watershed Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering with the Mukwonago River Project promises to be an especially unique experience.  The staff is interested in experimenting with new ways to manage the land in an effort to return it to its pre-settlement condition.  This means that volunteers have the opportunity to be involved in brand new stewardship practices and actually influence the future of land management in the Mukwonago River Watershed.

Equipment Maintenance
Maintain tractor and other equipment such as chainsaws, brush cutters, blowers and lawn mower.  We also need someone to sharpen tools, mow lawns, cut firebreaks, and maintain driveways.

Light Facility Maintenance
Put your skills to work on our buildings.  Several of the buildings are in need of general maintenance such as painting, cleaning, light repair, plumbing and carpentry.

Work Parties
If you are available on weekends, consider volunteering for our work parties at Lulu Lake and Crooked Creek preserves.  Crooked Creek work parties meet on the first Saturday of each month, and Lulu Lake work parties are on the second and fourth Sundays of each month except November and December.  Follow this link for specific dates and times of upcoming work parties.
