Open House at the Newell and Ann Meyer Nature Preserve
Date: Time: Overview: The Meyers donated 374 acres near Eagle, Wisconsin, to The Nature Conservancy in 2006 through their estate. Their dream was to create a nature sanctuary, an oasis of quiet beauty, amidst the hustle and bustle of southeast Wisconsin. At the open house, participants will have the opportunity to meet our Mukwonago River watershed project staff and take a leisurely hike on our new trail. Along the way, you will learn more about the Meyers and their visionary gift, as well as the woodlands, wetlands, sandhill cranes, waterfowl and other wildlife that make the preserve their home. We’ll talk about our prairie restoration plans and activities and how they contribute to efforts with partners to address the conservation needs in the Mukwonago River watershed. Registration: What to Wear/Bring: Location/Directions: From Eagle, follow Highway 67 south, driving past the main entrance to Old World Wisconsin. Follow the Highway 67 curve and drive less than one mile to County Road S. Turn north on County Road S and drive approximately 1/3 mile to an Old World Wisconsin service drive on the right. Turn onto the road and watch for volunteers to direct you to park and shuttle. The bus ride from the Old World Wisconsin parking area to the preserve takes approximately 10 minutes. The shuttle bus will run continuously between the parking area and the preserve; first leaving the parking area at 1:00 p.m. with last return trip from the preserve at 3:30 p.m. |
