Work Parties

Prairie Work Parties: Second Saturdays and Tuesdays
Join us for regular volunteer work parties on the South Puget Sound prairies. Contact Grace Diehl at gdiehl@tnc.org to sign up.

  • Second Saturdays
Prairie enthusiasts work together to remove invasive Scotch broom, plant native flowers and otherwise restore this lovely landscape. Work parties begin at 10 a.m on the second Saturday of each month. Occasionally followed by a Friends of Puget Prairies meeting and potluck.

  • Tuesday Work Group
Every Tuesday, a group of volunteers meets on the South Sound for seed collection, Scotch broom removal, conifer removal, native plant propagation, and other tasks. Some indoor work is available during the winter for those who choose to stay out of the elements. This group does the most varied and involved work of any of the work parties, and they always welcome new people. Bring weather-appropriate clothing, work gloves and a lunch.

Foulweather Bluff Ivy Pull
Saturday, Feb. 20
Kitsap County

Each year in winter or early spring, volunteers scour the forest at Foulweather Bluff in search of young holly or ivy sprouts to keep the preserve free of these invasive plants. Be prepared to scramble over logs and crash through dense brush. You’ll get wet and muddy, but that’s half the fun!
We need able-bodied, hearty volunteers. Not suitable for young children or those not physically agile. Plan to bring rain jacket and rain pants for wet underbrush, boots, gloves, lunch and water. We will meet at the site at 10 a.m. and finish by 3 p.m. To sign up and for more information please contact Barbara French,
bfrench@tnc.org or (206) 343-4345, ext. 361.
