Janicki Joins Nature Conservancy Board

Family has long history in Skagit Valley

SEATTLE — January 29, 2009 — Mike Janicki, whose grandfather homesteaded in Skagit County in 1921, has joined the Washington Board of Trustees for The Nature Conservancy.

Janicki oversees the field operations for Janicki Logging & Construction, a family-owned Sedro-Woolley business founded in 1957. Janicki actively manages the 2,000 acre family tree farm and other real estate holdings. He’s also a shareholder and board member of Janicki Industries, Inc., a company that leads the world in the manufacturing of large-scaled, highly accurate composite tooling for aerospace, wind energy, and marine industry. Since 1997, he has served on both the Boards of Directors for the Sedro-Woolley School District and Skagit State Bank, a community bank with 11 branches.

He’s eager to engage in the work of The Nature Conservancy. “One of my dad’s ideas was that when you’re making decisions for the family, look back three generations and ahead two generations,” he said. “I think about my grandparents, who came from Poland, and their hopes and dreams for their families. And I think about my future grandchildren, and the kind of environment I want them to have.”

“The Nature Conservancy has a track record of doing what they say they are going to do, and completing projects. I believe in the story and the mission,” he said.

The Conservancy has been working in Skagit County for more than 30 years. Today the Conservancy works with many partners on preservation and restoration—so thousands of migrating birds, hundreds of bald eagles, legendary Skagit salmon and many other species will be there for future generations.

The Nature Conservancy is a leading conservation organization working around the world to protect ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people. The Conservancy and its more than 1 million members have protected nearly 120 million acres worldwide. Visit The Nature Conservancy on the Web at www.nature.org.
