Opportunity to Preserve Dabob BayPlease attend a May 27 public meeting in Quilcene, or contact DNR to show your support
The state's Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is proposing to establish a large public natural area at Dabob Bay on the Hood Canal. As they say in their news release, "The area within the proposed boundary includes coastal bluffs and shorelines that provide sediment and woody debris for continued ecological function of the coastal spits. The proposed expansion could add up to 3,200 acres of shoreline and upland forests to the current 195-acre preserve." This place is a conservation priority for The Nature Conservancy's marine program in Washington, as well as a focus of the collaborative Alliance for Puget Sound Shorelines. We have recently purchased land there, own a conservation easement there, and routinely participate with DNR in restoration and clean up of the bay.
