Volunteers in Action

Hello, Volunteer!

I would like to introduce myself to you as the new volunteer coordinator at the Virginia Chapter of The Nature Conservancy. I am very excited and can't wait to get the ball rolling ... er ... the volunteers volunteering!

Some of you might recognize me, as I worked for the Conservancy through the AmeriCorps VISTA program and spent a year (Aug '06- Aug '07) in Warm Springs, Va. with our Allegheny Highlands Program doing education, outreach and stewardship activities. Most recently I worked for the Conservancy's Georgia Chapter as a restoration assistant, helping with prescribed burns, invasive species control, ecological monitoring and volunteer coordination. I received my B.S. in Environmental Geography with a minor in Environmental and Plant Biology from Ohio University and am, in fact, from Ohio—a small town called Cambridge. Among other things, I love to travel, hike/camp, try new things, play sports, craft, read and smile.

I am committed to the mission of the Conservancy and to continuing the excellent work Scott Boven has done to develop and build the volunteer program. The efforts of our volunteers have played a major role in the success of our program. It is with the help of people such as yourself that we are able to maintain our properties, offer field trips, conduct mailings and complete other necessities as they occur. THANK YOU!

During the next couple of months, I will be working to update our volunteer database, schedule workdays and get out the next issue of our volunteer newsletter. Be looking for your copy. If you need to change or update your volunteer information, please contact me.

Thanks for welcoming me, and I look forward to seeing you in the field at future projects, or here in the office. If you have any ideas, suggestions, questions or want to share your volunteer story (or have a favorite place to hike), I can be reached at (434) 951-0572 or via email at jrich@tnc.org.  Thanks for your help and interest in The Nature Conservancy.

Best Regards,

Jennifer Rich
