Wings & Water Wetlands Education Program

The Wings & Water Wetlands Education Program hosts over 1,500 students every year.

What is Wings & Water?

Wings & Water is a tailored, hands-on wetlands experience designed to meet state core curriculum science standards.  In addition, 4th grade students along the Wasatch Front will have the opportunity to gain a greater appreciation for the Great Salt Lake wetlands and ecosystem.  Wings & Water consists of these key elements:

Naturalist-Guided Wetlands Tour
The tour is an unforgettable, interactive journey through the world of wetlands at The Nature Conservancy’s Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve. Highly-trained naturalist-guides will lead your students in an exploration of wetland habitat, plants, animals and more along the boardwalk of the award-winning Visitor Center.

Student Discovery Guide & Field Guide
Your class will love this fun, activity-filled student journal and field guide, which is free for each student participating in Wings & Water.  Designed by educators, the Discovery Guide contains lesson ideas and exercises to help you assess your students’ learning using writing composition, vocabulary, word games and more. Download it now!

Pre- and Post- Tour Classroom Activities
These innovative lesson plan guidelines will help you incorporate wetlands education effortlessly into your classroom.  Each activity correlates to science curriculum standards and shows you how to use the Student Discovery Guide before, during, and after your Wings & Water Tour.  Organized by topic and complete with teacher background information, these activity packs will help you make the most of your Wings & Water experience.
