Congratulations to longtime volunteers Richard and Ruth Stone, recipients of the 2008 Utah Conservation Partnership Award!  Dick and Ruth have volunteered with the Conservancy for nearly 14 years, helping to advance the protection of Utah's special places in immeasurable ways.

"Both Dick and Ruth have been vital to our program's success," said Dave Livermore, Utah State Director.  "We are enormously grateful for their continuing hard work and dedication."

Richard and Ruth StoneSince 1997, Ruth has been a vital component of the Utah program's success--helping to ensure our chapter office runs smoothly. She has spearheaded countless administrative projects including filing, receptionist duties, office organization, and data entry.  Every task is performed quickly, efficiently and with Ruth's trademark smile and warmth.

Similarly, Ruth's husband, Dick, has been a stand-out volunteer from the start.  A founding member of our Speaker's Bureau in 1996 , he has worked tirelessly as a spokesperson for The Nature Conservancy, representing our work and goals to a range of groups and organizations throughout Utah.  Dick conducted site visits of various projects around the state for several years to ensure they continued meeting conservation standards, and has also guided numerous tours for kids and adults as a Naturalist Guide at the Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve since its opening in 2004. Dick was even featured as a Star Volunteer in our Spring 2002 Newsletter.

Beyond these contributions, both Ruth and Dick have inspired and mentored numerous staff members and other volunteers, and continue to help us accomplish our mission of preserving plants, animals, and natural communities in Utah and around the globe.  Thank you Ruth and Dick!
