Directions to South Dakota Preserves
Samuel H. Ordway, Jr. Memorial Preserve
From the intersection of Highways 10 and 45 in Leola, travel about 8 miles west on Highway 10. There is a blue water tower on the north side of the road. The Ordway property is on the south side of the road. The blue water tower marks the northeast corner. The self-guided trail area is one mile west of the blue water tower on the south side of Highway 10. Look for the kiosk and sign at the trailhead on the south side of the road.
Whitney Preserve

Altamont Prairie

Ten miles north of Clear Lake turn east on unmarked road off Hwy. 15 at the one-building town of Tunerville (just south of intersection of 212 & 15).

Travel 7.5 miles due east.

Preserve is on south side of the road.
Aurora Prairie

From Brookings Holiday Inn, travel 2.7 miles east on Hwy. 14.

Turn right on gravel road and travel south 3 1/2 miles.

Preserve is on east side of road.

You may walk in from the south gate.
Clovis Prairie
Jacobson Fen

From Clear Lake, SD, go 1 mile north on HWY 15

Turn east at rodeo sign and travel 3 miles east (road will turn from asphalt to gravel)

Turn north and go 1.2 miles north

The preserve is at the top of the hill past the T intersection.
Makoce Washte

From intersection of I-29 and Hwy. 42 (Sioux Falls 12th St.) travel 9.5 miles west on 42.

Turn north on gravel road 1/2 mile.

Preserve is on east side of road.
7-mile Fen

From Clear Lake, SD, go 7 miles east of town on HWY 22

Preserve is located on the northeast side of the intersection with County Road.
Sioux Prairie

From intersection of I-29 and Hwy. 34, travel west 1.5 miles on Hwy. 34 to Hwy. 77.

Turn north and travel 3.5 mi.

Preserve is on east side of road.
Vermillion Prairie

From SD Hwy. 50 bypass outside Vermillion, travel 1.2 miles north on Hwy. 19 to Bluff Rd.
