NOEL D. THORN

Special Projects Manager

Noel earned a B.S. in Business Administration from The Citadel in 1970 and worked with the Charleston accounting firm of McKnight, Frampton, Buskirk & Co., CPA’s, from 1970 until 1984, becoming a partner in 1973. During that time Noel provided financial and tax planning services to a broad range of clients, with a special emphasis in real estate and construction. In 1984, he left his accounting practice to become President of Wild Dunes Associates – owner, developer, and operator of Wild Dunes, a full-service resort and residential community on the Isle of Palms. In 1986, he was named Chairman and CEO of Wild Dunes Associates, and in 1988, became CEO of Dunes West in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Noel also established his own real estate firm, The Thorn Company, which planned the development of Parkers Island in Mt. Pleasant and brokered and managed several conservation transactions in Awendaw, S.C. that enabled The Nature Conservancy to permanently protect more than 1,000 acres in the Sewee to Santee Project Area. As CEO of Wild Dunes Associates and President of The Thorn Company, Noel also managed the operations of, directed the development of, and consulted in the development of other full service golf, marina, resort and residential communities located in the southeastern U.S.
 
Noel joined the staff of The Nature Conservancy in late 2003 as part of the Land Protection staff for the South Carolina Chapter, with special emphasis in real estate matters for conservation.
