Actress, Kaiulani Lee, portrays Rachel Carson in "A Sense of Wonder"
Rachel Carson’s 1962 book Silent Spring alerted the world to the dangers of chemical pesticides and launched our modern environmental movement. A Sense of Wonder chronicles her work to speak out on the terrible consequences of toxic chemicals in our environment, even as she herself was succumbing to cancer. Through her heroic testimony in the closing years of her life, she left an enduring public legacy that eventually took the form of the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act and other landmark pieces of environmental legislation that have made our environment measurably cleaner and healthier.
The film A Sense of Wonder showcases the acting talents of Kaiulani Lee, as she portrays Carson’s humor and anger at the attacks she suffered at the hands of the chemical industry, the government, and the press. Directed by Christopher Monger and shot in HD by Oscar-winning cinematographer Haskell Wexler, the 55 minute film is an intimate and poignant reflection of Carson’s life as she emerges as America’s most successful advocate for the natural world.
