Other Volunteer Opportunities

There is more to our volunteer program than attending the scheduled stewardship workdays.  Whether it’s researching the internet, attending events or completing administrative tasks in the office, there are lots of opportunities inside and out.

INDEPENDENT PROJECT OPPORTUNITIES: 

  • New Opportunity Deer Density Research: We are looking for volunteers interested in assisting with Deer Density Research at the West Branch Forest (Clinton County). Training will be provided. If you are interested in learning more and/or signing up to help out for the Spring 2010 season, please contact Molly Anderson.
  • Volunteer General Contractor: We are seeking a volunteer "General Contractor" who has knowledge and experience with permitting, building codes, etc. to assist with our efforts to build a facility from an existing building to house our stewardship equipment, office, and training center in Monroe County. 
     
  • Volunteer Mechanic: We are seeking a volunteer in Monroe County who has some mechanical skills/experience to help with equipment maintenance and repair. 

OFFICE OPPORTUNITIES:  Volunteers needed in the Conshohocken and Harrisburg Offices!

  • Administrative support: Help is needed at the Conshohocken Office with projects that include filing, mailings, organizing, copying, etc. 
     
  • Volunteer receptionist: Help is needed at the Harrisburg Office to answer phones and greet guests as well as help with other administrative projects.

  • Nature Walk on Sunday, August 16th. Please join Stuart Slocum on a walk along the Florence Shelly Wetlands Preserve (Susquehanna County) to learn about Life on the Forest Floor. Meet at the Stack Road Parking Lot of the preserve located at the junction of Route 171 and Stack Road, one mile north of Thompson, PA by 2:00 p.m. For more information, call (570) 756-3052 or (570) 756-3362.
     
  • Bog Walk on Friday, September 4th.  Please join staff from the Monroe County Conservation District to explore the Tannersville Cranberry Bog in the full moon. Pre-registration is required. For more information and/or to register, please contact the Monroe County Conservation District Office at (570) 629-3061. Cost: $4/nonmembers; $2/members and children under 12 years old.
     
  • Nature Hike on Saturday, September 5th.  Please join staff from The Nature Conservancy on hike to explore the Eales Preserve at Moosic Mountain (Lackawanna County). Meet at the main parking lot of the preserve located along Route 247, south of Jessup at 10:00 a.m. To RSVP and for more information/directions, please contact Molly Anderson at molly_anderson@tnc.org or (717) 232-6001, extension 117. 
     
  • Nature Walk on Sunday, September 6th.  Please join Trebbe Johnson on a walk along the Florence Shelly Wetlands Preserve to learn about White-tailed Deer.
