U.S. House of Representatives passes American Clean Energy and Security Act.

On June 26, the House of Representatives of the United States passed the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACESA).   This represents the first time either Chamber of Congress has passed comprehensive legislation designed to address the challenge of climate change.  The Nature Conservancy considers climate change to be the number one threat to nature and future generations, and has been working hard to support passage of the legislation.  Although much work remains to be done to assure passage by the Senate, the House of Representatives' action is a major and historic step.

We would especially like to thank the members of the Pennsylvania delegation whose "yes" votes counted for so much in achieving this challenging and narrow victory:

Congressman Robert Brady
Congressman Mike Doyle
Congressman Chaka Fattah
Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski
Congressman Patrick J. Murphy
Congressman John Murtha
Congresswoman Allyson Y. Schwartz
Congressman Joe Sestak

Learn more about this legislation and the Conservancy's special role in addressing climate change through a Q&A with president and CEO of The Nature Conservancy Mark Tercek.
