Portland Area

Camassia/Sandy River Steward
Restore native vegetation at Camassia Natural Area in West Linn and/or Sandy River Gorge Preserve. Adopt your own plot and remove invasive species, monitor native plants and track visiting animals. By returning to one spot on a regular basis, you’ll see the “fruits” of your labor, and see things you’d never notice in a casual visit.
Camassia Natural Area trainings: March 27 and May 21
Sandy River Gorge training: May 22

Native Habitat Restoration Intern
Assist our Portland Area Preserves Stewardship Team with restoring salmon habitat through manual control of invasive species, herbicide application and data collection in the field. Also participate in public outreach programs with private landowners. Kayaking, rafting and strong swimming ability required. Willingness to apply foliar and/or injectable herbicides is needed. Monday through Thursday with a minimum commitment of eight 10-hour work days between June 22 and September 24. Application deadline: April 30th.

Weed Watcher
Protect biodiversity while you hike by becoming a weed watcher! By finding and controlling new infestations early, we can stop them from becoming a problem. Volunteer positions in our Early Detection and Rapid Response Networks are available across Oregon. Contact Tania Siemens at tsiemens@tnc.org or (541) 914-0701 for more information.

Safety Committee Chair
Help keep our volunteers and staff safe by serving as chair of our statewide safety committee. Duties include setting agendas, taking minutes and sending reminders for monthly committee meetings, as well as special assignments related to safety and risk management. Time commitment of approximately eight hours a month is preferred.

Invasive Species Web Technician
Help update and maintain the Western Invasives Network (WIN) Web site, a one-stop site for information about invasive species Early Detection and Rapid Response. Experience editing online content and access to a computer with Web editing software is preferred. Minimum time commitment is two to five hours/week for two to three months, with additional projects possible. Contact Tania Siemens at tsiemens@tnc.org or (541) 914-0701 for more information.

Volunteer Receptionist
Handle incoming calls, greet visitors, sort mail and more. A four-hour weekly commitment is requested, and there are several possible shift times. May be “on-call” after training.

Wednesday Night Volunteer Leaders
Make our Wednesday night volunteer nights run smoothly by setting up volunteers with projects, helping with clean-up, and monitoring and replenishing treats. A monthly commitment of one Wednesday night is required.

Northeast Oregon

Dunstan Homestead Preserve Field Assistants (several needed)
Survey for bird species at 30 sites along the Middle Fork John Day River. Bird enthusiasts of all experience levels are encouraged, with existing audio/visual ID skills appreciated. A minimum commitment of two days between May 10 and June 27 is required. You’re also invited to help eradicate invasives during a weeklong work party: July 26-31.
