Natural Recipes ~ Blueberry Sauce

The following recipe was mentioned in the Blue Weekend article in this edition of the Volunteer Update as a great topping to vanilla ice cream.  Cynthia Warner submitted this recipe which was originally submitted by Doris Krull to, and printed by, Leduc Blueberries, Paw Paw Michigan.

Blueberry Sauce recipe:

  • 4 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • ½ cup each orange juice and water
  • ½ cup sugar (or ¼ cup sugar & ¼ cup Splenda
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch
  • ¼ tsp Nutmeg
  • ½ tsp grated orange peel (optional)
  • Dash of salt

Combine all ingredients in sauce pan.  Cook and stir over medium heat 4-5 minutes until thick and clear.  Makes 4 cups and can be frozen.
