Cedar Clearing
Date/Time:
Saturday, December 12th, 9:45 am to 2:00 pm
Overview:
Are you ready for a serious work out? Our cedar clearing volunteer projects are a vital part of our efforts to open up areas that support rare Ohio prairie communities. The preserve consists of large mosaic grasslands and prairies interspersed with second-growth woods. In the past, the area was disturbed and deprived of fire, allowing the invasive cedar trees to move in. On this project day we will be cutting down the cedar trees and piling them. On this project we will meet at 9:45 a.m. and embark on a 15-20 minute hike to the work site. Please bring loppers and bowsaws to this project. As with all projects, we recommend, long pants, a hat and work gloves. We consider this to be a strenuous project and we encourage you to work at your own pace and take breaks as often as necessary. Please bring a lunch and plenty to drink in a backpack. We will take a break about half way through the project and eat lunch at the work site. Also, please note that there are no restrooms or other facilities on this property. Please remember that if you register for this project we are counting on you. If, after registering, you realize that you can’t participate please call volunteer Mike Shifrin, Strait Creek Crew Chief, at 614-262-5451.
Directions to the meeting location will be emailed to people on the registration list the Thursday before the project.
