Autumn Olive Control
Date/Time:
Saturday, May 10th, 9:45 am to 2:00 pm
Overview:
This project begins and ends with a great bonus, an enjoyable 15 to 20 minute hike to and from the project site. If you are lucky you may see the dolomite cliffs, narrow ridges, meandering streams, rare prairie communities, and Appalachian Oak forest that comprise the gorgeous Strait Creek Prairie Bluffs preserve. As you may know, we rarely have volunteer project days on this preserve in the spring. So this is your chance to see what you have been missing all these years - the spring wildflowers at Strait Creek. Grab your loppers and saws and join us in our effort to control the invasive autumn olive trees. We will cut them at the base and apply herbicide. If rain is in the forecast, we will change our plans and work on cutting red cedar (which do not require herbicide) from within and along the globally rare little bluestem prairies. Please be sure to note that the meeting times for Strait Creek projects are 9:45 a.m. This is the last project at Strait Creek this spring - don’t miss it!
