Prairie Planting
Date/Time:
Saturday, May 10th, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Overview:
We will plant young prairie plants that were grown from seeds collected on the preserve last year. These plants were grown in the office under grow lights and in the greenhouse at the Maumee Valley Country Day School in Maumee, OH . They will be planted on several newly acquired properties in order to quickly increase plant diversity and add new habitat for the federally endangered Karner blue butterfly. We will focus on planting tallgrass prairie plants including big bluestem, Indian grass, giant sunflower, swamp milkweed and dense blazing star.
