The Nature Conservancy of New York

Piecing together the Pipes Cove Puzzle

•  Pipes Cove is a quiet little spot covering 230 acres outside of the Town of Southold on Long Island's North Fork.  View this map to get a better idea of where Pipes Cove is located, and why the Reese property was so important to secure.

•  The Nature Conservancy and Southold had designated Pipes Cove a high priority conservation area for its relatively undeveloped landscape and high diversity of plants, fish, birds, and other wildlife.  The Natural Heritage Program of New York, a group that works to enhance and enable the conservation of New York's rare plants and animals, was asked to carry out a complete inventory of Pipes Cove.  Their final report found several rare or endangered species making it a valuable area for conservation.
