  • The Nature Conservancy has worked together with New York State to restore the natural fire cycles some ecosystems need to survive.  We've successfully performed controlled burns in the Long Island Pine Barrens and in the Shawangunk Mountains.

  • The Nature Conservancy is working together with the Departments of Environmental Conservation and Agriculture in the Invasive Species Task Force

  • The final report issued by the Task Force describes problems associated with invasive species, and also discusses current efforts by government, and conservation groups as well as makes recommendations about how New York can more effectively combat this growing and expensive threat.

  • The Nature Conservancy uses a science-based approach to identify fragile areas that are necessary to protect New York's water and unique natural lands.
  • The Nature Conservancy is supporting efforts to increase the state's Environmental Protection Fund, because buying land and protecting it requres public as well as private funding.
