The Young Professionals Group
In November 2006, Trustees of The Nature Conservancy hosted a benefit to honor the Young Professionals Group for their past achievements and their commitment to conservation. Get Involved!Visit us online at nature.org/ypg or contact Evelyn Chen at echen@tnc.org. |
The Nature Conservancy's Young Professionals Group is an exciting initiative of the New York State program designed to bring together and engage young, busy, individuals in conservation and to provide opportunities for involvement in the Conservancy's work.
Over the last year, The Nature Conservancy's Young Professionals Group has hosted a wide array of events to reach out to their peers and raise funds for conservation.
Ranging from hikes and preserve trips to a movie screening and cocktail parties, the Young Professionals have raised over $90,000 in the last year for important projects throughout New York, including the Conservancy's work to protect the source of New York City's drinking water in places like the Neversink Preserve.
Now these Young Professionals are rising to the challenges of conservation in a whole new way.
With an initial gift from the Young Professionals advisor, Tom Rosenberg, a YP Challenge Grant was established this fall. Two gifts from additional Trustees, Jack Murrin and Dick Berry, have brought the Challenge to a total of $25,000.
The rules of the YP Challenge specify that any gift from an individual YP at or above $1,000 is eligible for inclusion in the Challenge, which seeks to generate $25,000 in gifts from Young Professionals to match the Challenge funds being provided by the Trustees. Over the last year, 14 individuals stepped forward to make individual gifts ranging from $1,000 to $8,000, enabling us to complete the full $25,000 Challenge.
Many thanks to the Young Professionals who have made a commitment to conservation through a gift to the YP Challenge Grant:

The total $50,000 in funds will be used to support conservation initiatives across New York, including The Nature Conservancy's work in freshwater habitats, to combat invasive species, studies of acid rain and mercury deposition, and efforts to fight climate change.
