Wingate Shores Preserve at Garland Pond

This preserve is named for the late Richard Wingate Foster, whose generous land donation to The Conservancy made this preserve possible.

Located at the core of the Lakes Region, Garland Pond is one of the last remaining ponds in central New Hampshire with an undeveloped shore front.  The 120-acre pond represents an intact, unaltered pond-shore ecosystem that harbors the rare water marigold, and provides critical habitat for moose, deer, otters, beaver, black ducks, and a number of neotropical bird species.

The preserve protects forested wetlands, including the seepy red maple swamp and a high quality vernal pool that is home to many amphibian species, such as salamanders and wood frogs.

The Wingate Shores preserve features panoramic views of the Sandwich Mountain Range, and is fed by the Red Hill River.  The preserve is nearly adjacent to the 531-acre Sheridan Woods Preserve, which is owned and managed by the Lakes Region Conservation Trust.
