Dominated by the arid lands of the Great Basin and Mojave Desert, many of Nevada's plant and animal species are adapted to highly specific niches. Because the ecosystems they depend on are so fragile, their populations can easily be wiped out. Every day, development and agriculture are pushing into the desert frontier causing biodiversity loss, soil erosion, spread of invasive species and freshwater depletion. The Nature Conservancy is working to ensure Nevada's desert and freshwater habitats remain healthy and productive for Nevada's native plants, animals and people! |
