The Nature Conservancy Completes Acquisition of McCarran Ranch

Las Vegas, NV—September 11, 2002—Seven years after the Conservancy first began exploring options to acquire the historic McCarran Ranch, and two years after entering into a purchase agreement, the complicated transaction was finally completed on September 11th of this year. The Conservancy plans to restore 305 acres of floodplain and in-stream habitat along the five miles of the Truckee River corridor it now owns by reversing harmful human-induced changes made during the past 100 years. Work on the $7 million restoration project will begin in Summer 2003 and continue for the next five years.
