Annual McCarran Ranch Open House

Sunday May 18, 2008

Join The Nature Conservancy for our annual open house at McCarran Ranch Sunday May 18, 2008. Bring the kids (but, please, no dogs) and see how the river is recovering thanks to TNC’s ongoing restoration efforts. Our work at McCarran Ranch has included adding riffles to the river to improve in-stream habitat, creating wetlands to diversify habitat, bringing back native vegetation in place of weeds, and building a new stream meander to reconnect the river to its floodplain. Guided and self-guided tours will be available. It's also a good spot for birding, so bring binoculars!

Directions to McCarran Ranch (from Reno/Sparks):

McCarran Ranch is on the Truckee River about 15 miles east of Reno. Take I-80 East from Reno to the Patrick exit (Exit 28). Off the exit, do not cross the river, but take an immediate right and double back west on the frontage road for roughly 1/3 mile to a stop sign. Continue straight/west another 1/2 mile on the private road and cross the railroad tracks (ungated crossing – proceed with caution). You will see a small white house/green roof with TNC sign outside and parking area.
