from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Stewart Pagenstecher, a volunteer preserve steward, will lead a work day at the preserve to do nature trail maintenance, post boundary signs and other tasks at this preserve along the Meramec River.
Contact Stewart if you plan to attend or need more information:
Before 4:30 p.m.: (314) 676-6595
After 4:30 p.m.: (636) 391-6564
Location:
On the east side of Old Highway 19, one mile north of Steelville between Grand Road and the Meramec River (Sec. 28 and 33, T38N, R4W, Crawford County). Turn onto Cushing Rd., one mile south of Highway 19 bridge over the Meramec River, to reach the old highway.
Directions:
From Interstate 44, proceed south on Highway 19 towards Steelville. Go approximately six miles until you cross the Meramec River. This new bridge is about a half mile up stream from Zahorsky Woods where the old highway alignment used to cross. From the south side of the river, continue up the hill towards Steelville and before you reach the summit, make a left onto a short road segment that connects to Old Highway 19. Go left on Old Highway 19 back towards the old river crossing. The road dead-ends at the lower entrance to Zahorsky Woods.
Please bring and/or wear:

Tools and work gloves will be provided. We will also have a first-aid kit. Bathroom facilities are not available at the work site. Because of the fragile nature of the preserve, please do not bring pets.
If the weather is questionable, the event may be cancelled. Please call to confirm.
