The Mississippi gopher frog is one of the most endangered creatures on Earth, presently known to inhabit only four small ponds in south Mississippi. Two of those ponds are now safeguarded by The Nature Conservancy. The Conservancy will be working with a local expert biologist to conduct the field monitoring, which will look into population size and reproductive success in three of the ponds. The Conservancy and other conservation partner’s research, management and land protection represents the best chance for this interesting local species to endure and recover.

For more information on the gopher frog project, please contact Coastal Field Representative Mike Murphy.
