Celebrating Earth Day
Nissan Funds Canton Community Conservation Day
In 2007, the Conservancy’s Mississippi Chapter received special funding from Nissan to support a Community Conservation Day. The event was held during the week leading up to Earth Day and served as an educational opportunity at Canton Elementary School for over 140 students. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality also participated at the event by providing funding for the Watershed Harmony puppet show, an educational performance that teaches children about water quality and conservation in our communities. The following day, school officials and students joined Conservancy staff, Canton’s Mayor and the City Park and Recreation Director to participate in a tree-planting project at Anderson Park. The group planted more than 30 native trees.
