On April 6, 2005 the Mississippi Chapter thanked and recognized 48 businesses and foundations for supporting The Nature conservancy’s business-like approach to conservation in Mississippi. A special thank you was given to Mississippi Power Company and Chevron, sponsors for the event.

Governor Haley Barbour, keynote speaker at the luncheon remarked, “The Nature Conservancy is to be applauded for seeking innovative opportunities for Mississippians to preserve important natural areas while also capitalizing on the economic benefits to local economies through sustainable use of our state’s natural resources.” Governor Barbour spoke before a crowd of more than 150 corporate and foundation representatives. He also identified The Nature Conservancy as one of the key leaders in recent efforts to explore the benefits of nature tourism for Mississippi.
