Kristen Blann, Ph.D.
Freshwater EcologistKristen Blann rejoined our staff as a Freshwater Ecologist in January 2006. She holds a Ph.D. in Conservation Biology from the University of Minnesota Department of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology where she studied landscape-scale influences on coldwater stream fish communities in the Blufflands of the Upper Mississippi River. In addition to her work at The Nature Conservancy, Dr. Blann recently completed a postdoctoral position with the University of Minnesota Water Resources Center exploring the impact of agricultural tile drainage on aquatic ecosystems. At the Conservancy she provides technical leadership for aquatic conservation planning, and recently authored Identifying Lake Conservation Priorities for The Nature Conservancy in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. Feature Project Dr. Blann is the technical lead for developing aquatic Conservation Action Plans (CAP) in the St. Croix River Watershed (PDF, 208 KB). Funded by the McKnight Foundation, the project will focus on the Snake and Kettle Rivers of Minnesota and the Upper St. Croix Watershed in Wisconsin. Through the CAP process, the Conservancy will explore potential conservation strategies within the watershed, drawing on the expertise of organizations such as the St. Croix Conservation Collaborative. |
