April 24, 2008: The Nature Conservancy Applauds House for Passing Ballast Water Legislation
The U.S. House of Representatives has advanced legislation supported by The Nature Conservancy that will block one of the top pathways through which invasive species are introduced to our nation’s lakes, rivers and seas. If signed into law, the Ballast Water Treatment Act will go a long way toward halting further invasions which have already cost our economy billions in control efforts.

April 01, 2008: The Nature Conservancy Receives $1.8 Million Gift to Help Protect Common Loon
The Nature Conservancy announced today that it has received $1.8 million to help conserve the common loon, the official state bird of Minnesota. The gift from the late Iva Weir is one of the largest donations benefiting a single species the Conservancy has ever received in Minnesota.

October 03, 2007: Public Access Ensured to 51,163 Acres in Minnesota’s Northwoods
Governor Pawlenty announced today that more than 51,000 acres of forest—almost 80 square miles—in Itasca and Koochiching counties have been conserved. This is the single largest conservation project in Minnesota in at least a decade. The agreement will protect jobs, preserve wildlife habitat and guarantee public access for outdoor recreation.
