Date/Time:
Saturday, June 7, 2008
11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Overview:
Join us for a hiking tour of Weaver Dunes when Blanding’s turtles are on the move to their nesting grounds. Tour guides will be on hand to discuss the native plants and animals of the area, as well as how the preserve is managed.

Our annual open house will include kids' activities, light refreshments and door prizes.

Weaver Dunes is part of a larger sand terrace 10 miles long and three miles wide. The remaining prairie is home to a large population of Blanding’s turtles as well as more than a dozen threatened plant species.

Blanding’s turtles are shy, mostly carnivorous turtles recognizable by the bright yellow on its chin and throat and the light dots across its high-domed shell.
