Grassy Pond Preserve

Closed to the public, the Grassy Pond Preserve is one of the very important coastal plain ponds of Cape Cod. Coastal plain ponds are rare freshwater wetland communities that harbor a high concentration of globally endangered plant species. The survival of these plants is dependent upon the ponds’ quality, quantity, and fluctuation patterns.

Why the Conservancy Selected This Site
Grassy Pond was protected because of its valuable coastal plain pondshore plant community.

What the Conservancy Has Done/Is Doing
In 1997, Dorothy Bell has donated a conservation restriction on Grassy and Clay ponds in Dennis, which will permanently prevent development on 1,000 feet of shore habitat. That effort and another unusual land swap completed a five-year protection effort for the entire shoreline of the pond. The Conservancy has been doing hydrologic monitoring and supporting a study on pitch pine invasion of pondshores.
