I want to help, but I don’t care to use herbicide. What can I do?

Many of the invasive weeds that we battle on our preserves respond well to non-chemical control methods, such as pulling, raking, cutting or digging. However, some species are unaffected by repeated treatments —or even grow back more vigorously--unless herbicide is applied. For more information about weed control methods, see the Conservancy’s Wildland Invasive Species Program website.

Any weed control work party where we apply herbicide also needs volunteers in non-herbicide roles. We apply the chemical to a cut stump or squirt it into a hollow cut stem, so you can do the cutting and remain far from the herbicide application. If you are willing to work with herbicide, we have suits available for your protection.
