North Cherry Creek Bog

This is a medium-size preserve, so we are looking for 4 Boundary Walkers. None of the boundary line is on the road but a small part is along a woods road and another small part adjoins a church property; the rest feels quite remote. Some line runs through wetland (some of it very open and sunny) and most of the line is through woods.   The elevation of the lines is between 2680 and 2780 feet and most are relatively flat and wet.  We have good relations with the church that neighbors us to the south and not much experience with any of the other neighbors.

Most of the lines are in good shape as of November 2006 because we have had our local crew relocating and remarking them after many years of neglect.  We hope our new volunteers can get out on the ground soon while the lines are still clear and visible and keep them in good shape in the coming years.

Because it is hunted by a locl hunt club during legal deer season only, that season is a good time to avoid the preserve.  Boundary work is easiest anytime the leaves are off the trees, but because this preserve is at elevation in Garrett County, autumn comes earlier and spring comes later than in other parts of Maryland, giving us a longer season to work.
